The Hatch System - Strength and Conditioning

Recently, Florida State hired Vic Viloria from SMU as their new strength and conditioning coordinator. At SMU Viloria was used the Hatch system which involves more Olympic style lifts rather than powerlifting. The idea is more focused upon the speed at which the weight is moved rather than raw power alone. In this video Viloria explains some of the philosophy behind this and discusses the program at SMU.

This seems to be a trend in high school football programs as well as more programs are trying to increase speed as well as power. One hurdle in high school athletics however, is the time required to teach proper technique in olympic style lifting. High school coaches often don't have as much time with their athletes as college coaches do to develop this technique.
